Up The White Button Down
The collared white button down. It’s a classic. Always in. Wear it as it is, under jumpers, as a dress…
Whether you’re a man buttoning up left over right or a woman buttoning right over left, it’s the collar that pops it’s way into every outfit — the collar that captures my attention.
If I’m honest, I despise wearing plain white shirts like this. A dress — I love. But, a shirt? No thanks. I’ll do it, though, for the collar. Even if my fingers tug down the crinkly fabric that, for god’s sake, won’t chill under my sweater. So, here’s a thought: Keep the collar. Toss the shirt. Hmmm…yes.
After snipping away the collar from the shirt, I buttoned it around my neck. I wore this dress to work a week ago and was curiously asked by customers if I got it from Anthropologie — where I work. I laughed and said no, I picked it up at Goodwill for $5. What my mom once called a nightgown is now a beautifully embroidered Mexican garment and one of my most-complimented wardrobe pieces.
I’d like to thank Shrek for inspiring my hair in these photos. Seriously, though, I feel great when I wear my hair like this. Almost as good as if I’d taken a magic beauty potion.
