My Gucci Wardrobe

Amidst being victim to symptom #2 of my celebrity worship syndrome and watching an interview with Dakota Johnson on Youtube—read THIS if you are confused—I stumbled upon my love for Gucci fashion.

As I studied her, poised in a beautiful pink, princess-like dress on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, I was oddly reminded of the clothes I used to dress my dolls in as a child, but, also spellbound and itching to dress MYSELF in such a gown. Yes, quite obviously it looks a bit childish, but, then, I love a nod to simpler, worry-free days.

Google search informed me Dakota was wearing the Gucci 2016 SS Pink Embroidered Chiffon Dress. Next, Gucci search informed me the label is the *bleep* shit.

And, so, I engaged in one of my favorite past-times: online shopping. Here is a collage of what I would purchase from the website—my pretend Gucci wardrobe. After all, who doesn’t like to play dress up?

As I flipped through the clothes, I was like a kid in a candy store—my mom will attest to this. The velvet tangerine dress on the bottom left corner was first to get me squealing. What do I find most attractive about a piece of clothing? Personality, of course. Specifically, Type CP: having color and/or print. Bursting with Fruit Gushers-like pigments and a giant blue bow, the A-line shaped frock fits easily in my wardrobe next to a pair of black tights and lace-up Jeffrey Campbell boots. All I would need to add is a ticket to fashion week.

The baby blue dress above is my favorite out of the quad. A mix of Cinderella and Tinker Bell, this piece screams—no, whispers softly—whimsy. It matches perfectly with the pair of pumps below.

Scene: The floor is checkered and the seats covered in soft leather. A waitress approaches. Hm…her dress looks similar to the black one by Gucci. I picked this piece for its practical wearability—it also makes me feel as though I am sitting in a diner—mmm shake, burger, avocado and poached eggs. A pink foil trim infuses just the right amount of Blair Waldorf cheekiness.

I saved a 100% Type CP dress for the finale (bottom right corner). The sleeve and hem lengths remind me of what suffragettes wore in the early 20th century. The bow jogs my memory of the medals my grandmother showed me she was awarded for helping in the war. La robe est empowering and definitely for a celebration. I love how loud it is.

*Moment of silence for this cape.* Ok, I am obsessed with the graphic design, clean, sharp lines and saturated colors. This piece of outerwear looks like a marker drawing. The white neck ruffle plays with your eyes—is it 2D or 3D?

In my opinion, these pumps are the definition of a classic shoe. They give a nod to men’s penny loafers of the 1930s, and something about them seems so natural and ordinary, but beautiful—like a naked body. Weird analogy, I know.
